Our tincture formulas were created to enhance the health and well-being of body, mind and spirit. The herbs used in the formulas are of the highest quality available today. At least 95% of the herbs we use are certified organic.
Unless otherwise noted, our tinctures are extracted in 40% grape alcohol. Using alcohol as a solvent has many benefits:
 |
- Alcohol serves as an effective medium for extracting active constituents from the herbs
- Alcohol acts as an effective preservative, giving tinctures a shelf life of over 3 years and inhibiting bacterial and fungal growth
- When taken in medicinal doses, the alcohol serves to drive the herbal active constituents into the body, making tinctures a concentrated, fast-acting method of delivery.
|
For a greater perspective on the alcohol content, keep in mind:
- Most of the alcohol can be evaporated from each dose by adding the tincture to hot tea, or by adding the dose to a little boiling water
- One mixed drink contains 1 ½ ounces alcohol per drink. Our tincture bottles are 1, 2 and 4 ounce size. Most people are unlikely to take a full 1 ounce bottle of tincture at one time; taking an alcohol-based tincture is not like having an alcoholic drink.
- The amount of alcohol in a dropper of tincture is about the same amount of alcohol that exists in a ripe banana.
